Latest Government advice

We understand that with the announcement of a new lockdown there are going to be a number of patients concerned about the situation, especially those in very vulnerable risk groups and also those with children attending educational settings. The current government advice about high-risk groups is available here. A further update is expected on Monday 2 November. It is expected that the Government will write to patients who were previously classified as Clinicically Extremely Vulnerable. GPs at our practice have no additional information about the current situation and are unable to help with requests for COVID-related sick notes or other letters relating to COVID.

We appreciate there are concerns around children attending school at this time, especially if a household has extremely vulnerable members. As a practice, we are very sorry, but decisions about children attending school are not ours to make.  should you have a concern about your child's welfare in school please contact the local authority or your child's school.

Electronic Prescription Service Phase 4

EPS4 goes live at Bilborough Surgery on 1st September 2020. If your prescriptions are already sent electronically to a nominated pharmacy then there is minimal change. If you do not have a nominated pharmacy, your prescription will be sent electronically to the NHS Spine and a pharmacy of your choice will then retrieve your prescription when you go to collect this by advising them of your NHS number. If you do not know your NHS number, ask your doctor when they are issuing you your prescription. Prescription tokens are also sometimes generated, however you can still get your prescription without these. If you do not currently have a nominated pharmacy but would like to nominate one, please speak to reception.

Read more about EPS on the NHS website.

Dr Phillips is retiring

After 49 years of service to the NHS and as GP Dr Phillips has made the difficult decision to retire. Dr Phillips retirement will be effective from 1 July 2020. Reception at Bilborough Surgery will remain open for patients to make appointments by phone. However, all care will be provided at Bilborough Medical Centre on Bracebridge Drive, under Partner, Dr Rebecca Steed and the management of Nottingham City GP Alliance, until further notice.

Dr Rebecca Steed, Clinical Lead at Bilborough Medical Practice says:

“We can’t wait to welcome Bilborough Surgery patients to the Bilborough Medical Centre family. We look forward to you being able to access the wide range of services that we can offer with phlebotomy, nurse clinics, minor illness appointments, joint injections, and pharmacists in addition to GPs. We have worked hard to ensure that we offer a range of choice but retain a personalised service with continuity of care, since NCGPA took over our management.

You will not need to take any action. All administration duties will happen behind the scenes by the dedicated admin teams.”

Coronavirus

The NHS in Nottingham and Public Health England (PHE) are well prepared for outbreaks of new infectious diseases. The NHS has put in place measures to protect patients, our community and NHS staff while ensuring as many services as possible are available to the public.

If you have symptoms associated with Coronavirus including a new continuous cough, or a high temperature, or loss of taste/sense of smell, you are advised to stay at home for 7 days.

Please do not book a GP appointment or attend our GP practice.

If you live with other people, they should stay at home for at least 14 days, to avoid spreading the infection outside the home. After 14 days, anyone you live with who does not have symptoms can return to their normal routine.

But, if anyone in your home gets symptoms, they should stay at home for 7 days from the day their symptoms start. Even if it means they're at home for longer than 14 days. The most up-to-date public guidance is always online at www.nhs.uk/coronavirus

If your symptoms are serious, or get worse, NHS 111 has an online coronavirus service that can tell you if you need further medical help and advise you what to do.

Only call 111 direct if you are advised to do so by the online service or you cannot go online.

Everyone is being reminded to follow Public Health England advice to:

  • Always carry tissues with you and use them to catch your cough or sneeze. Then bin the tissue, and wash your hands, or use a sanitiser gel.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after using public transport. Use a sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Stay at least 2m apart from people who do not live in your household.

Electronic Prescription Service

Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) is now live in our practice. You can read further information about Electronic Prescriptions or speak to a member of our team.

Named GP for all patients

From April 2015 all GP practices are required to provide all their patients with a named GP who will have overall responsibility for the care and support that our surgery provides to them.

Dr Steed is the named GP for all patients registered at the practice. She has overall responsibility for the care and support that our surgery provides to you. This does not prevent you from seeing any GP in the practice as you have always done.

You can now book your appointment and order your repeat prescription online using our patient online access service. Available 24 hours a day, it's especially useful when the practice is closed or telephone lines are busy.
